Some Interesting Information About the Chinese Money Tree

The first thing to remember about the Chinese money tree is that it is actually a form of a bonsai tree.  The tree has a very thick trunk that is twisted and braided.  They are also very easy to care for.  It can typically be found in Asian countries as this population believes that it will bring the owner good luck and great fortune.  This tree can also be found in China and it is usually handed out during the Chinese New Year.

Many people who decorate their homes in the feng shui manner tend to like this plant because of the five lobed palmate leaves.  If you find a Chinese money tree that has leaves in clusters of seven hold on to it.  This plant is considered to be really lucky.  Another interesting thing about the plant is that many of its components are actually edible.  This includes the leaves, the flowers found on it, and the nuts that it often produces.  Another benefit of the tree is that it is very easy to care for.

If you decide to decorate your house with a Chinese money tree you will want to follow a few simple instructions.  You will want to begin by putting down a newspaper or old sheet so that you have an area to work on.  This will decrease the mess that you have to clean up later.  Next, get a pot and unwrap the tree so that you can prepare to plant it.  You have an option as far as potting soil goes.   You can either use all potting soil or 2/3 soil and 1/3 sand.  Either way is fine.  Place 3 or 4 broken pieces of pottery into the soil at the bottom of the pot before you put the soil in.  This will keep the soil from flowing out of the bottom of the pot when it is watered.  Then, you will take the tree out of the plastic wrapper it is in.  Be sure that you leave the potting soil intact.  Finally, center the tree in the pot.  Make sure that the soil ball is touching the bottom of the pot.  Then cover the rest of it with soil.  Tap the soil down lightly, but do not make it to compact.

This tree can grow to become well over six feet tall.  They also tend to grow quickly.  The Chinese money tree will also thrive even if it is not cared for very well.  One thing you need to make sure of is that you let it dry out in between watering.  This may sound odd as most plants and trees should not go completely dry.  You will know if you are watering it too much because the leaves will begin to curl.  This can also happen if you are not watering it enough.  The tree really only needs to be watered approximately once a week.  This can change to once every two or three weeks in the winter.

If the leaves do appear to be dry, you can gently pull them off and new leaves will soon grow.  You can also remove limbs that appear to be damaged because they will grow back as well.  Keep the plant indoors for better results.  Do make sure that it is getting brief exposure to the sun as it does not need a lot.

As you can see, this is an interesting tree and it is very easy to take care of.  You should consider a Chinese money tree if you want something that could be a very good conversation piece for your home.  Who knows, maybe it will bring you luck!
