Planting grape plants is something that is going to take a lot of consideration.  You are going to need to consider your zone and then you are going to need to look at the different types of grape plants that are available.  Once you have done this, you are going to need to think about which grape plants are going to grow in your area.

Now that you have selected your grape plants, you are going to need to determine where you are going to plant them in your yard or on your property.  It is very important to select a location that is going to get full sunlight for a least part of the day and some place that is going to give you the opportunity to train your vines to grow properly.

It is very interesting to know that grape plants to not like a lot of water.  You are going to want to make sure that the land you are planting on has good drainage.  If your plants are getting too much water, their roots will rot and they will eventually die.  You want to avoid this so you need to make sure that you have an effective drainage system for your grape plants.  While you are getting the draining ready, you will also want to make sure that the soil is broken up appropriately.  You do not want it to be clumpy at all.   You should also add a peat moss and sand to your soil if you notice that it has a lot of clay in it.

When you dig the hole for your plant, you will want to make sure that it is large enough for the root of the vine.  This is just like digging a hole for a tree.  It is important to make sure that the hole is large enough and wide enough to give your grape plants room to spread their roots.  This is the most important thing to consider.

Once you have your plants in the ground you will want to recover the roots with dirt and soil.  Be sure that they are covered very well.  You do not want any of the grape plants roots to be sticking out of the ground.  Be sure to give your plants enough water but not enough to drown them.  If you live in very dry, humid areas you are going to want to water your plants everyday.  You will do this until the plant is well established in the ground.

There are so many different tips and key things to remember when you are planting grapes that you really should research this or talk to a professional before you begin.  It may also be a good idea to start with a small number of plants until you get the hang of it.  You do not want to spend a lot of money on the plants to find out that you are unable to care for them properly.  If you are serious about this endeavor then you should be well prepared.  Planting grapes can be a great experience and add class and character to your home, if you know what you are doing.
